Allow Me to Introduce Myself....

Hey everybody! My name is Chris, but most students know me as Rev. around campus, even though I’m not a Reverend at all. I’m a super senior here at UNC studying for Sociology with an emphasis in Social Issues major, Communication Studies minor, and a concentration in Business Administration. Now that all the long stuff is out of the way, I can give you some light of who I am. I was born in Omaha, NE and moved to Orlando, FL a month before my 9th grade year. After spending my high school years in Orlando, I decided to come to Greeley and attend UNC.

I know the million dollar question is probably jumping up and down in your head right now: Why in the world would you leave Orlando to come to Greeley or Colorado for that matter? Well, I’m glad you asked. Being from Omaha, I appreciate the suburban type atmosphere with city life nearby. Orlando, and most of the Florida schools for that matter, was way too big for me with the hustle and bustle. I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to focus or get a good student to professor ratio in Florida. Not only that, I was the person who had like 40 pages in the yearbook, so I needed to get involved from day one in college to keep myself sane. UNC offered me that opportunity and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m a firm believer that change comes from the inside out, not from the outside in. I’ll keep you updated on my life, where I work behind the scenes at UNC, helping out with various organizations and program meetings to help develop and redefine what it means to be a UNC Bear. Homecoming events, Convocation, Graduation, Athletics, and a lot of volunteer events around Greeley are just some of the things that you’ll hear about because that is my life. So if you have any questions about campus involvement here at UNC, I think I can answer about any of them because I’ve probably worked with them at some point.

You’ll also hear about my life outside of UNC, which includes some great people who keep me realistic as a 22 year old. They keep me entertained, to the point where there is never a dull moment around them. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
I’m excited to have you follow along as I tell the story of a senior preparing for the final year before the real world!

Week of Champions: Rev. Style

I’ve heard it many times before: “Preparation, with proper planning prevents poor performance.” However, like many others, I fall victim to the giant of procrastination. Enjoying life in the now and not thinking of the timeline to achieve perfection in major projects is really one of my downfalls. After 4 full years of college, that included many sleepless all-night cramming sessions, I would get the message through the head. Nope. Not even close.

This week was quite the humdinger, if I say so myself. My summer school class had me listed to do my final presentation on Monday, along with my final exam on Wednesday. I had nearly 5 weeks to prepare for the presentation on Monday; however, I think I waited until Sunday night to start it. The final exam included questions from day one and all the other student presentations that were covered over the six week course. So, Tuesday night led into that crazed night of turning off my phone and missing an award show that I really wanted to see, in order to refresh my brain of all the material that I had learned. Sounds like fun right? Thankfully, both of them went extremely well, despite my lack of proper planning. In fact, the final exam, I know I “over-studied” for it. But, thankfully I’m learning that some people operate better when there is pressure around. Some folks thrive on that adrenaline that pumps through because they are forced to tap into their core to get their head above water. Every person has to know their boundaries though.

Not to mention the adrenaline that’s already there, I had to some how muster up enough strength to keep going through the second half of the week. The Greeley Stampede, working at a local bar, and keeping up on my movies (I still haven’t seen The Incredible Hulk, The Love Guru, or Kung Fu Panda. I know sad day) have been keeping me extremely busy. But somehow, I’m sure I’ll find a way to keep up with the pace.
